a spiders lunchtime

I was standing there waiting for a drop to land in his web. Instead of a droplet, a little fly just flew in. Unfortunately the sun had disappeared behind a cloud and it was windy, I had to drop the aperture right down which mean shallow depth of field.

Turns out the spider didn’t eat the fly, he just wrapped it up and saved it for later.

Bubble drop

Haven’t added any new content for a while, I really hadn’t taken any photos. I had a bit of a sun-shower today at home so I went for a walk in the park next door.

This is just a droplet I found underneath a plank of wood, I think it’s cool because you can see bubbles in the water.

Small Predator

These happen to be one of my favorite insects; the praying mantis. He’s like a cross between a predator and a ninja. This little guy tried to karate chop my lens.

Milkdrop

Milkdrop happens to be the name of an awesome win-amp plugin, and quite a suitable name for this photo. Taken using a plate of milk, two dyes, an eye dropper, a bucket and tripod. For this shot I actually gave it a bit of an extra squeeze to get two drops going at once.

It was taken using a 40D with a EF-S 60MM USM macro. I considered using a circular polarizer but I’m glad I didn’t. I’d be taking more at the moment but my balcony is cast in shadow.

The only post processing applied over the image is a B&W filter and a slight contrast change. Click through for higher resolution.

Fly too close

This photograph was taken in Licola, Victoria. I was sitting in the river drinking a beer while my friends where fly fishing. One thing that I hate about “Mainland” Australia is the little flies. They cover you and you can hardly escape them. I was yellow with insect repellent and they would still land on me. This fishing trip wasn’t successful, it rained the whole time pretty much.

Taken on a Canon 40D, f/2.8, 1/60 sec. ISO-640, using a 60mm EF-S Macro.
